Service, repairs and second lives

Half our service calls are for equipment somebody else installed, usually with one of three problems: stones never turned, a steam room that was never tanked, or a chiller two sizes too small.

Indicative band: 0.35–1.8 million RWF, supplied and installed.

Service, repairs and second lives

What a service actually includes

For a sauna: stones out, sorted and turned or replaced (they crack and pack down, and packed stones choke airflow and burn out elements), element resistance checked, thermostat and overheat cut-out tested, bench fixings tightened, timber cleaned and re-oiled where it needs it, vents cleared.

For a steam room: generator descaled, probe cleaned, drain and trap flushed, silicone joints checked, extract timer tested. For a plunge: condenser cleaned, pressures read, cartridge changed, ozone cell checked, water tested.

The repairs we do most

Heater elements that failed early because the stones were never turned. Steam generators scaled up because nobody knew they had to be descaled. Benches that cupped because somebody used local hardwood. Chillers that never held temperature because the tub was uninsulated — which is a rebuild of the tub, not a repair of the chiller, and we say so before we take the job.

Refurbishment

An old cabin with a sound shell is usually worth re-lining: strip the benches and lining, check the vapour barrier and insulation, re-line in thermo-aspen, new heater and controls. It comes in well under a new cabin and the carcass is often better built than what is sold today.

In short

  • Six-monthly service for commercial rooms, annual for homes
  • We service equipment we did not install, if parts are obtainable
  • Most early heater failures trace back to stones that were never turned
  • Re-lining a sound old cabin costs far less than replacing it
Questions

Service & repairs: what we are asked

How often should a sauna be serviced?

A family cabin once a year. A hotel or gym sauna every six months, and the stones turned quarterly by your own staff — we show them how at handover.

Do you travel outside Kigali?

Yes — Rubavu, Karongi, Musanze, Huye and the lodges. Upcountry visits are scheduled in blocks so the travel cost is shared between sites in the same week.

My steam room smells. Can it be fixed?

Usually. It is almost always a trap that has dried out, an extract with no run-on timer, or water sitting where the floor has no fall. The first two are cheap; the third means lifting tiles.
