A sauna rarely fails overnight. It fades: a cabin that takes longer to heat, a steam room with a sour smell, a plunge that no longer reaches its setpoint. Caught at a service visit, most of those problems are cheap; left for a year, they are not.

The faults we see most

Across our projects the same few faults come back again and again. Heater elements that burn out early because the stones were never re-stacked and packed down around them. Steam generators choked with scale because nobody knew they needed descaling. Benches that cupped because they were made from the wrong timber. Chillers that never reach temperature because the tub around them has no insulation — a tub problem, not a chiller problem, and we say so before taking the job.

A Kigali service visit, item by item

Sauna: stones out, sorted, re-stacked or replaced; element resistance measured; thermostat and overheat cut-out tested; bench fixings and vents checked; timber cleaned and oiled where it needs it.
Steam room: generator descaled, sensor cleaned, trap and drain flushed, silicone joints inspected, extract timer tested.
Cold plunge: condenser cleaned, refrigerant pressures read, cartridge changed, ozone cell checked, water tested.

Maintenance contracts for hotels, lodges and gyms

Commercial rooms run every day, so we service them every six months and ask your staff to re-stack the stones every quarter; a family cabin needs one visit a year. A maintenance contract fixes the visit dates, the price and the response time for a breakdown, and it keeps the manufacturers' warranties valid. Every room we build also carries our own 24-month warranty.

Rooms somebody else built

We take on equipment we did not install whenever parts can be obtained. As official sellers of EOS and Sentiotec since 2015 we source parts for those brands directly; for anything else, send a photograph of the model plate before we book the visit, so the right parts travel with the technician.

Re-lining instead of replacing

An older cabin with a sound carcass is usually worth re-lining: strip the benches and lining, check the vapour barrier and insulation, re-line in thermo-aspen and fit a correctly sized heater. It costs a fraction of a new cabin. If the heater is being replaced anyway, check its size against the altitude — sauna heater sizing at 1,450 m gives the method.

Servicing & repairs: questions from Rwandan clients

How often should a sauna be serviced?

Once a year for a family cabin. Every six months for a hotel, lodge or gym, with your own staff re-stacking the stones each quarter — we show them how at handover.

Do you service rooms outside Kigali?

Yes: Rubavu and Karongi on Lake Kivu, Musanze and Kinigi, Nyungwe, Akagera and Huye. Upcountry visits are grouped by week so the travel surcharge is shared between sites.

My steam room smells. What is wrong?

Usually one of three things: a dried-out trap, an extract with no run-on timer, or water standing where the floor has no fall. The first two are quick fixes; the third means lifting tiles.
