Saunas and cold plunges for Gisozi homes and businesses

Why the hot room does not come from a local carpentry shop

Kigali's carpenters are skilled, and the joiners around Agakiriro make doors, decks and outdoor furniture to a very good standard. A sauna's hot room is a different product: it needs thermo-treated timber that is neither grown nor treated in Rwanda, benches fixed with no metal where skin lands, a vapour barrier with every joint sealed, and a heater matched to the cabin's volume and altitude.

That is why our cabins are built and dry-assembled in our own factory in Istanbul, where we have done exactly this since 1987, then crated and shipped. Local trades still matter: a Rwandan brick plinth, a basalt surround or a timber deck built on site sits well beside a factory-made cabin. Homes on the hill

Newer houses near the top of Gisozi usually have a small, sloping garden and a single-phase or recently upgraded supply. A two-person cabin with a 4.5 kW heater at our altitude-corrected sizing runs comfortably on a dedicated single-phase circuit, and a lidded plunge tub on the shaded side of the house often needs no chiller at all for 15–18 °C water in Kigali's cool evenings.

Guesthouses, offices and gyms

Guesthouses along the main roads and gyms serving the district's working population ask for a compact sauna or a pair of plunge tubs rather than a suite. For commercial rooms we fit a controller with a timer and an external switch, a floor drain with a proper fall, and filtration on every shared tub. On the REG bill these are non-residential customers, so almost every sauna kWh costs 376 francs once the month's first 100 kWh are used up (tariff in force since October 2025).

Typical budget in Gisozi

A two-person cabin is 3.2 – 4.4 million RWF supplied and installed; a timber-clad plunge with no chiller is 1.9 – 3.1 million; a gym corner with two tubs and a sauna is 6.5 – 14 million. Service visits here are priced as Kigali visits — 0.35 – 0.55 million for a sauna — with no upcountry surcharge.

Access and delivery

The main roads up the hill are paved, but side streets are steep and some end in murram. Crates are sized to the last turn, and our crew carries them the final stretch where a lorry cannot reach. Traffic around the trade hub is heavy during business hours, so deliveries are planned for early morning.
