Loading, not landscaping

On a roof terrace or an upper floor the numbers that matter are dead load and point load. A four-person cabin is light; a 900-litre plunge tub is nearly a tonne concentrated on a small footprint. We ask for the structural drawing, or have an engineer look, before quoting anything that holds water.

Where the slab will not take a tub, an infrared cabin or a sauna on its own still works, and a cold shower on a timer gives much of the contrast for none of the load.

Apartments and single-phase supply

Many apartments here have a single-phase supply that will not carry a 9 kW heater. The options are a smaller cabin with a 4.5–8 kW heater on an upgraded circuit, an infrared cabin on its own 230 V circuit, or an application to REG for three-phase — worth doing if you own rather than rent. For a rented flat, the infrared route avoids any change to the building's supply at all.

The gym corner

Kimihurura has one of the city's densest clusters of gyms and studios, and a recovery corner has become part of the membership pitch. Two tubs and a compact sauna in 12–14 m² is the format that fits: enough throughput for an evening class, small enough for a converted storeroom.

Conference weeks and serviced apartments

The Kigali Convention Centre sits in Kimihurura, and Rwanda's meetings and events trade brought in USD 94.7 million in 2025 across 165 events (Rwanda Development Board). Serviced apartments and small hotels nearby fill with delegates whose evenings are free, and a compact sauna or infrared room on a shared floor suits exactly that guest.

Budgets here are compact: an infrared cabin at 1.4 – 3.6 million RWF, a two-person Finnish cabin from 3.2 million, and a gym recovery corner with two tubs and a sauna at 6.5 – 14 million.
