Kimihurura is dense, young and vertical — apartments, roof terraces and gyms rather than big gardens. Most of what we install here goes upstairs, which makes the slab the first question.

Loading, not landscaping

On a roof terrace or an upper floor, the numbers that matter are dead load and point load. A four-person cabin is light; a 900-litre plunge tub is nearly a tonne concentrated on a small footprint. We ask for the structural drawing, or get an engineer to look, before we quote anything with water in it.

Where the slab will not take a tub, an infrared cabin or a sauna alone still works, and a cold shower on a timer gives most of the contrast benefit for none of the load.

Apartments and single-phase supply

Many apartments here have a single-phase supply that will not carry a 9 kW heater. Options are a smaller cabin with a 6-8 kW heater on an upgraded circuit, an infrared cabin on an ordinary socket, or an application to REG for three phase — which is worth doing if you own rather than rent.

The gym corner

Kimihurura has the city's densest cluster of gyms and studios, and the recovery corner has become a membership argument. Two tubs and a compact sauna in 12-14 m² is the format that works: enough throughput for an evening class, small enough to fit in a converted storeroom.
