Heat-up time is the specification

A guest with forty minutes cannot wait fifty for a cabin to reach temperature. We specify smaller, well-insulated rooms with generous heater capacity for the volume, so the cabin is usable in about twenty minutes, and add a scheduler so it is warm before the evening arrivals land.

That is the opposite of a lodge, where the cabin can idle warm all afternoon. Here the control strategy is the product.

Airport-side hotels

Rooms are smaller and plant space is tighter. A compact sauna plus a cold shower delivers most of the benefit in a quarter of the footprint of a full suite, and it is what we recommend to properties that want the amenity listed without giving up four bedrooms of floor area. Where the hotel prefers steam, a compact steam room fits the same footprint.

Homes near the hospital

The residential side of Kanombe has many medical and military households working shifts. The brief here is usually a two-person cabin that heats fast and runs at odd hours — a control question again, not a timber one. A 4.5 kW heater in a solid-walled two-person cabin reaches temperature quickly on a single-phase circuit, which suits exactly that pattern of use.

Guests who arrive at midnight

Late arrivals are normal near the airport, and a sauna that runs until midnight needs controls that shut it down safely without a member of staff standing by. We fit a timer with a hard limit, an external switch at reception and an overheat cut-out that is tested at every service visit. A cold shower on a push-button timer beside the cabin keeps the water bill predictable.

Budget for a compact room

A two-person cabin with solid walls is 3.2 – 4.4 million RWF; a 2–3 person steam room is 4.8 – 7.5 million. Both come with a programmable controller. On a hotel's REG connection the energy is billed at the hotel rate of RWF 239 per kWh for properties using under 660,000 kWh a year (effective 1 October 2025, before VAT and the regulatory fee), and a small, well-insulated cabin keeps the kWh per session low.
