Infrared sauna cabins for Kigali apartments

What you actually get

An infrared cabin warms the body directly with radiant panels while the air inside stays at roughly 45–60 °C, well below a Finnish sauna. It draws 1.5–2.5 kW from a 230 V supply, becomes comfortable in about a quarter of an hour, and has no stones, no water and no löyly. You sweat steadily rather than in bursts, and the heat reads as gentle rather than fierce.

Electrical needs on a 230 V circuit

Give the cabin its own circuit with a correctly rated breaker and an RCD rather than sharing a socket ring with a kettle and an iron. That is the whole electrical job: no three-phase application to REG and no heavy cable run.

Running cost is small. A 2 kW cabin used for 45 minutes takes about 1.5 kWh; at REG's household rate of RWF 369 per kWh for consumption above 50 kWh a month (tariff effective 1 October 2025, before VAT and the regulatory fee), that comes to roughly RWF 550 a session.

Panels and the low-EMF question

We fit carbon panels behind the backrest, at the sides and low at the calves, with a full-spectrum option for clients who ask for it. Because the panels sit a few centimetres from the body for half an hour at a time, we specify low-EMF wiring and send the panel data sheet before you commit. Ask any supplier for the same document.

Where it goes in the flat

A bedroom corner, a wide landing, or a covered balcony that stays dry through the March–April and October–November rains. The floor must be flat, the cabin needs about 10 cm behind it for the cable, and it does not need to be anywhere near a tap. Weight is modest — two people carry a two-person cabin up a stairwell in panels — so a structural check is rarely needed, unlike a water-filled plunge tub.

When the lease ends

The cabin bolts together from panels, so it comes apart in a few hours and travels to the next address. For diplomatic and NGO households on two- or three-year postings, that is often the deciding argument.

Prices

A two-person cabin is 1.4 – 2.2 million RWF and a three-to-four-person full-spectrum cabin 2.3 – 3.6 million, delivered and assembled with duty and VAT included. If you own the home and the budget stretches, compare it with a compact custom Finnish sauna from 3.2 million.
