Building on rock

Terraces here are cut into rock rather than soil, which is excellent for stability and awkward for services. Drainage often has to be surface-routed or pumped, and fixings are drilled and resin-anchored rather than dug. We survey drainage before layout, not after.

The upside is that a plunge basin can be built into the rock itself and stay cool with almost no plant — the stone does the work.

International expectations

A new generation of operators on this shoreline is arriving with brand spa standards, and that means documented plant, water testing regimes and a serviceable design rather than a tub and a heater. We build to that standard, with a plant room, isolation valves, a maintenance log and staff training at handover.

Deliveries on a mountain road

The road from Kigali is long and winding. Panels travel strapped and padded, deliveries are staged so a truck is never waiting on site, and we plan for a day lost to weather in each rainy season.
